Ribfest & Wings - Thursday, Apr 20 2006

Roll up your sleeves and dig in at Gatlinburg’s 5th Annual Ribfest & Wings street festival Thursday, April 20 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. on Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies Plaza and River Road in downtown. Come out and enjoy live entertainment, children’s activities and hot wing eating contests sponsored by the Pepper Palace in Gatlinburg, all promising a lip-smackin’ good time!

Enjoy live entertainment throughout the evening featuring Carib Sounds Steel Drum Band, down from up, “Hurricane Bob” and the Devastators, and Sevier County resident Kevin McGuire.

Carib Sounds Steel Drum Band is a seven member band based out of Knoxville, Tenn. Steel drum music is a fresh sound with roots that run deep into the Caribbean. Carib Sounds Steel Drum Band will take you on a musical journey and move you into that “island attitude.”

Down from up is based out of Knoxville, Tenn. and is known as the city’s most progressive rock band. They have spent two years touring the Southeast United States and have provided opening acts for the Beach Boys!

“Hurricane Bob” and the Devastators is a diverse group of musicians spanning all types of music including Rock-A-Billy, Classic Rock and Swing. They are sure to make you wanna dance!

Request your favorite songs and sing and dance along as local talent Kevin McGuire performs “Musical Memories” on vocals and keys. McGuire will also record for podcast the May episode of “Podcasting The Smokies.”

Children’s activities include face painting, an inflated dog where children can jump until their hearts are content and balloon artists are on hand to create the most bizarre characters ever!

Hot Wing eating contests sponsored by The Pepper Palace in Gatlinburg will take place throughout the event and feature sauces such as “The Hottest Sauce in the World,” “Ring of Fire,” “Sweatin’ in the Smokies,” and “Death by Wings.” Pepper Palace and the City of Gatlinburg will award prizes to the “Hot Wing Eating Contest Champion of the Year.” See if you can handle it!

An armband for Ribfest & Wings may be purchased for $10 that allows all-you-can-eat sampling or a “buck for a bone or two wings.”
