Daffodils and Dogwoods and Red Buds . . Oh MY!
Daffodils, dogwoods, azaleas, red buds, rhododendrons... Springtime in the Smokies is a continuous blaze of color between the months of March and June. Vibrant wildflowers, shrubs and trees shake off the frost of winter and don their seasonal finery.
Palates range from the purest white of the ubiquitous bloodroot to the fiery red and orange of the flame azalea to the bluish-purple hue of the rare tall larkspur. And what better way to celebrate the changing of the seasons than with countywide festivities?
Springfest 2006 kicks off its fourth year on March 8, 2006 as a collaborative celebration between the towns of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevier County and features local craft shows and other special events to celebrate the blooming of over 1,500 varieties of flowers in the Great Smoky Mountains.
In town, visitors can witness a seemingly overnight transformation into Spring when the city streets overflow with baskets of beautiful blooms and flowering bulbs.
For those who love to wander the many trails in the Smokies, among the first wildflowers to make a grand entrance is the trout lily, which is closely followed by the white blooms of the abundant bloodroot plant...
